They’re Almost Ready …

16 Feb

Plane-HandPoweredAn update on the progress (click here for the backstory) from a weekend of working on the Hand-Powered reclaimed wood yoga blocks for Jessie’s yoga classes at the Center for Holistic Wellness and beyond …

1. Nate and I moved the workbench out to the front porch and lined up the yoga blocks-in-progress.  You can see Nate’s recently-refurbished drawl knife he inherited from his grandfather closest to the left.

2. Nathan also retired an old saw blade today and turned it into a “cabinet scraper,” which we lovingly refer to as the “yog-scrape.”

3. I jumped in and did some scraping and sanding myself, and when the workbench wouldn’t hold still, I did what was natural to keep it in place.  Nate chuckled, “Only a yogini would ever think to do that,” and promptly took a picture.

4. Here’s a detail of the tedious hand-powered sanding (no power tools in sight … only a lot of bicep and core work … all those Chaturangas pay off in this line of work)!

5. The final steps are the most gratifying … applying tung nut oil!  It turns the wood a deep, rich color and seals it off nicely.  It was fun to paint messages onto the naked wood for the first time!  “Om Shanti Om,” means Peace in Sanskrit.

6.  We just need to let the oil dry, then steel wool the blocks, apply a few more coats of oil, and then they’ll be ready for use!  So exciting!

They’re almost ready!
How excited are you!?!

Proudly hand made in Sedro-Woolley, USA.

They are beautiful! I’m sure that you will love them at your yoga classes. People will probably want to buy them with the sayings on them. Love your enthusiasm. XO mom

Thanks, Mom! If you guys start practicing yoga, we could make you a set of hand-powered blocks that say Grey Goose Ranch! 🙂
